Minnesota Assessment Administration

Description: Minnesota Assessment Administration provides a thorough overview of the important roles and duties of managing an assessor’s office. The course will include information on the following topics: managing staff effectively, managing office work efficiently, providing good customer service through effective communication, review of the annual assessment calendar and deadlines, sales and the sales ratio study, the importance of maintaining relationships, acknowledging and incorporating diversity and inclusion, new assessor review process, and using technology throughout the assessment process. This Assessment Administration course is required for the Senior Accredited Minnesota Assessor (SAMA) level of licensure. This course is also approved by the Minnesota State Board of Assessors for 30 hours of continuing education. Note: This class will be a 4-day format with the exam on Thursday afternoon. Class size is limited to 48 students.

COVID-19 Considerations: MAAO has worked with the event venue for this offering to ensure proper social distancing, adherence to the Governor’s orders of not exceeding 25% meeting room capacity for events, and COVID-19 catering accommodations. Additionally, sanitizing stations will be provided, face masks will be required at all times, no-contact forehead temperatures will be taken at the beginning of each day, and there will be no passing of paperwork throughout the class. We have talked in detail with the event venue and feel confident that every reasonable precaution is being taken for attendees' health and safety.  This offering is subject to cancellation if mandated by the Governor.  A 100% refund will be processed for any registrant due to a Covid-related cancellation. Attendance at this course is at the risk of the employer and attendee. MAAO will not be held liable.

Food & Beverages:  For student, instructor and employer convenience, lunch and a limited variety of refreshments and snacks are included in your registration fee for this course. (Note: In order to keep registration fees lower, co-sponsored courses such as Principles and Procedures, and IAAO courses hosted by MAAO will offer beverages, a.m. and p.m. breaks only; lunch will not be provided.)

Student Expectations:  This course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction during which students will be expected to participate in discussions, group activities, and coursework that may include but is not limited to reading, homework problem solving, etc. both during and outside classroom hours.  There is also an exam at the end of the course the student should plan to review for.  If alternative testing options are required please contact the course coordinator via email as soon as possible to discuss and we will attempt to make reasonable accommodations.

Cancellation Policy:  Cancellation requests received prior to 8:00 a.m., 5 business days prior to the start of the course will be issued a refund, less a $30 administration fee.  Cancellations requests received after this time or registrants who fail to attend the course are responsible for the entire fee.  If a registrant is unable to attend the event, a substitute from the jurisdiction that paid the registration fee can attend at no additional charge.  Please send written notification of this change or cancellation requests to [email protected].  Although it is not the policy of MAAO to cancel a course or seminar, MAAO reserves the right to do so and provide a full refund if the minimum enrollment level is not reached.  Refunds will be issued within 30 days of the date of the course or conference.
