MAAO Residential Assessing 101

Monday, June 28 - Tuesday, June 29, 2021

8:00 am - 5:00 pm
St. Cloud, MN

Registration will close at midnight Sunday, June 20th, 2021.

Description:  Developed and instructed by the MAAO Residential Committee and the MAAO Curriculum and Standards Committee.  Residential Assessing 101 is a 15 hour, 2-day course.
This elective course is for assessors that are new to the field. This course will help new assessors be efficient, educated, and more knowledgeable in the assessing and housing industry. Topics that will be covered include quintile inspections, accessory structures and dwelling units, modular/manufactured home construction, fee appraisals and appeals, residential construction and grading the house. Safety will be discussed as well. Participation and discussion is encouraged in the class. At the end of the class, an exam will follow.

NOTE: While MAAO does not monitor the experience level of course registrants, it is VERY important to note that this course has been developed with the new, inexperienced appraiser in mind. It is highly recommended that course registrants are not seasoned appraisers but rather newer appraisers.

COVID-19 Considerations: MAAO has worked with the event venue for this offering to ensure proper social distancing, adherence to the Governor’s orders of not exceeding 25% meeting room capacity for events, and COVID-19 catering accommodations. Additionally, sanitizing stations will be provided, face masks will be required at all times, no-contact forehead temperatures will be taken at the beginning of each day, and there will be no passing of paperwork throughout the class. We have talked in detail with the event venue and feel confident that every reasonable precaution is being taken for attendees' health and safety.  This offering is subject to cancellation if mandated by the Governor.  A 100% refund will be processed for any registrant due to a Covid-related cancellation. Attendance at this course is at the risk of the employer and attendee. MAAO will not be held liable.

Credits: Residential Assessing 101 is a 15 hour, 2-day course with 14 hours of instruction and a 1 hour exam.  This course has been approved by the State Board of Assessors for 15 hours of continuing education. To use this course as one of the 15-hour Property Type Specific course required for AMA licensure, you must take the exam.  You do not need to take the exam if you only need CEH's, but you will only receive 14 hours.
